Babenberger Hall

Description

Event center and multi-purpose hall

After many years of discussions about the construction of an event center in Klosterneuburg, the municipal council passed a resolution on 6.5.1966 to build a multi-purpose hall at Rathausplatz 25. On 26.6.1966, former mayor Leopold Weinmayer laid the foundation stone for the new hall. The new building was blessed and opened by Abbot Koberger on December 7, 1969. Since then, the town has had an event center at its disposal with a large hall (20 x 40 x 7.8 m) and a circular gallery. In addition to the large hall with a capacity of approx. 750 people, there is a small hall and the side foyer on the first floor and the "Göppingerstüberl" and the club room in the basement. In total, the building can accommodate up to 1,400 people. The Babenbergerhalle hosts cultural, ball and exhibition events all year round, as well as cabarets, concerts, musical and opera evenings. The annual number of visitors to the Babenbergerhalle can be estimated at up to 40,000 due to major events with free admission, such as trade fairs and exhibitions, or the annual Leopoldi celebrations, where wine from the Klosterneuburg winegrowers is served in the large hall. The list of artists who have taken part in events in the Babenbergerhalle since its foundation reads like a "who's who" of the Austrian cultural scene. Here is a small selection of artists from a wide variety of genres who have performed an evening in Klosterneuburg: Wolfgang Ambros (1976, 2000 and 2003 with "Austria 3" at the Rathausplatz as an event of the Babenbergerhalle), Waltraud Haas, Erwin Strahl, Toni Stricker, Reinhold Bilgeri, Otto Schenk, Karl Moik as part of a "Musikantenstadl" in 1991, Lukas Resetarits, Hans Joachim Kulenkampff, Mini Bydlinski, Andreas Vitasek, Alexander Bisenz, Erwin Steinhauer, Karlheinz Hackl, Heinz Marecek, Willi Resetarits - "Ostbahnkurti", "Ostbahnkurti" - "Ostbahnkurti" - "Ostbahnkurti".
