Familie Niedl - das Niedl-Ei
Description
Chickens love to scratch around outside and eat grass and clover. However, they are naturally timid. They are particularly afraid of birds of prey. That's why they rarely stray more than 30 to 40 meters from the coop or any cover. This means that they primarily stay close to the coop. For the run, this means that all vegetation has disappeared directly next to the shed. On the other hand, the run further away is hardly ever used. An alternative here is "mobile free-range housing".
What is mobile free-range housing?
In mobile free-range farming, a chicken coop on wheels is regularly moved to a different location, similar to a traveling circus. A new run is fenced in with a mobile electric fence.
Why mobile free-range farming?
The reason is that the chickens always have a fresh run. This means they can always eat fresh grass. The grazed pasture left behind can now regenerate.
Advantages of mobile free-range farming compared to traditional free-range farming:
The animals consume more green fodder as they always have a "freshly set table".
The soil is protected. The plants can regenerate after grazing. There is no "lunar landscape".
The groundwater is protected as the manure is actually distributed and not just left lying in front of the barn entrance.
Reduced parasite infestation: With the Hühnermobil, you simply drive away the parasites before they can multiply.
Energy self-sufficient thanks to solar panels: The photovoltaic system supplies the electricity required for lighting and controlling the run flaps.
Why are mobile free-range eggs more expensive?
Time-consuming care: water and additional feed have to be brought in separately. The eggs have to be collected by hand and cannot be transported away automatically on conveyor belts.
Keeping only in small groups: While traditional free-range farms often keep 1000 or more animals in a group, mobile free-range farms can only keep small groups. This results in higher housing costs per animal.
This means higher costs for the livestock farmer, which is reflected in a higher egg price.
In return, however, the consumer buys the PREMIUM egg among eggs: the Niedl egg!
Where can I get the Niedl egg?
The Niedl egg is now available from our farm in the 24-hour egg vending machine. We look forward to your visit!
