The Friends of the House of Artists in Gugging was founded in 1990. The activities of this association are not profit-oriented. The most important aims of the Friends of the House of Artists are to support and promote the work of artists whose works are classified as Art Brut. In addition, the association seeks to strengthen the position of Art Brut artists in the general art scene and aims to achieve comprehensive recognition of their achievements. The general recognition of Art Brut in contemporary society should also noticeably improve the artists' quality of life.
These aims are to be achieved through lectures, meetings, scientific work, social gatherings, the publication of a newsletter, discussion forums, the establishment of a library, an Art Brut archive and an Institute for Art Brut, the realization of projects and the formation of working groups.
Since April 1, 2000, the association has also been the sponsor of the House of Artists. As an independent social welfare institution, the House has since been able to invite people from all over the EU.
